Working with Parents is privileged to work with a number of Great Britain Sporting Programmes with each sport providing a tailored programme of support.
Work with British Gymnastics continues to expand with sessions being delivered extensively across the pathway programme for parents and coaches, the creation of a customised ‘Sports Performance Parenting’ book and the WWPIS services being used by many of the leading clubs across Great Britain.
The British Sailing work is now into it’s second year.
A customised WWPIS and British Sailing Platform is available to all coaches and parents involved in the performance pathway to help support the journey of young sailors both on and off the water.
Throughout the last year there has been a series of workshops and webinars delivered across the whole sailing community as well as the development of further support as both parties work together to maximise the benefits of the partnership.
Live sessions at the British Sailing Championships in Portland were a particular highlight.
Youth Racing Manager Oli Woodcock announces “We are thrilled to provide a new means of supporting parents of young sailors. We recognise the enormous commitment, passion, and effort that parents of performance sailors put into funding their children’s sports expenses and transporting them to various events to help them progress along the performance pathway. Therefore, we are thrilled to provide parents with a supportive resource that will aid them in the future”.
The partnerships with British Shooting and GB Climbing are in their infancy and we are looking forward to developing these partnerships over the coming year.
In the British Shooting Programme sessions have started to be delivered to pathway parents using the WWPIS ‘Sports Performance Parenting Series’ and the positive feedback from parents has been overwhelming.
Pathway and Community Coordinator Christian Schofield said, “British Shooting is delighted to be partnering with Gordon and his team at Working with Parents in Sport.
NGBs and parents from a large number of sports across Britain and the world have benefited from their support and assistance and we are excited to be a part of this community.
British Shooting are committed to supporting and engaging with parents, to work together to best support them in their support and development needs through the multiple roles they play in their child’s journey through sport. An aspiring athlete’s journey through sport is rarely linear and they must navigate the ups and downs of their journey, with their parents/guardians right there alongside them, and we are committing to helping parents through that journey as a performance parent.
We are excited by the potential of this collaboration and look forward to working with the parents, Gordon, and his team to create a supportive community together.”
The first stage of the partnership with the British Mountaineering Council/GB Climbing will see a customised platform being made available to all coaches and parents involved in the performance pathway to help support the journey of young climbers.
Throughout the next year there will be a series of workshops and webinars delivered across the whole climbing community as well as the development of further support as both parties work together to maximise the benefits of the partnership.
Helen Murphy, the BMC Safeguarding Manager, stated, “This platform is crucial for our athletes and parents as we strive to champion a safer sport for all, improve relationships, and foster collaborative work between parents, athletes, and coaches. Our aim is to enhance the overall experience for all athletes in the GB Climbing pathway, teams, and beyond.”
