Sports Performance Parenting is now available to the entire British Gymnastics Community. Following positive feedback from parents in the performance pathway we are delighted that this has now been made available across the whole sport.
The book complements the ‘Sports Performance Parenting’ workshop/webinar series that Sarah Murray (Performance Edge) and ourselves are currently running across a number of performance environments and gymnastics clubs across the country.
Sports Parenting can be one of the most challenging parental journeys, there is no such thing as a perfect sports parent.
There is very rarely a one size fits all approach and yet there are so many things for us to navigate as parents in order to give our young sports people the very best support that we can.
The book explores the sports parenting journey and the different stages our children will go through.
It provides opportunities for reflection, explores different scenarios parents may encounter and offers a range of tools and strategies that parents can experiment with.
Commenting on the launch, CEO Gordon MacLelland said: “We are thrilled to make this book available to the entire gymnastic community. So many parents have expressed interest in the book when we have been running workshops in clubs, so to finally bring this to fruition is fantastic news.”
Sarah Murray also added: “We feel privileged to work alongside British Gymnastics in their mission to support parents of children through their gymnastics journey. It is due to their hard work and commitment to this important topic that we can bring this book to the gymnastics community.”
Alex McGregor, Head of Performance Pathways at British Gymnastics also commented: “We have been working with Gordon for a couple of years now, supporting the parents of gymnasts since our Performance Pathway. The impact and feedback from the parents has been so positive and I’m really excited that we can now make this book available to all parents in the gymnastics community.”
The book features a host of interviews with Olympians, professional sportsmen and women, junior athletes and their families who all share their personal experiences of being involved in the sporting journey. This includes Adam Lallana (Premiership Footballer), Alex Matthews (England Rugby), Georgia-Mae Fenton (British Gymnast) and James Guy (Swimming Olympian).
