Derby County Academy Parent Forum 2020/21 – FAQs for Parents
What is the Parent Forum?
The Parent Forum is a group made up of parents and carers of Derby County Academy boys. The role of the Parent Forum is to work in collaboration with Academy staff, representing the wider parent community by sharing ideas and opinions.
What are the aims of the Parent Forum?
We have clear aims which are:
- To foster an environment of mutual collaboration between our parent community, the Academy, and our staff
- To facilitate open dialogue, offering advice to the parent community regarding academy provision
- To gauge parent response to proposed academy initiatives
What won’t the Parent Forum do?
- Discuss individual Academy players or staff members
- Discuss issues which are driven by the interests of individuals rather than the wider parent community.
How are Parent Forum members selected?
There are available places on the Parent Forum each season. An invitation to apply for membership of the Parent Forum will be issued at the start of each season via the Academy’s official communication channels. If you are interested in participating, you will be asked to submit a short paragraph explaining what you feel you could bring to the forum and your thoughts regarding priorities for parent-academy collaboration during the 2020/21 season. Interested parents and carers will then be invited for an informal chat. Consideration will always be given to the proportionate representation of the wider parent community (cross-development phases, host families, single-parent families, multiple-sibling families).
If I apply to become a forum member, what will be expected from me?
All members will be required to attend a termly meeting (a total of three across the course of the season). These meetings will be held at Moor Farm and take place during existing training times where possible. Fourteen days’ notice of meetings will be given to all members.
The role of Parent Forum members is to act as spokespeople on behalf of the wider parent community, always striving to foster parent-academy collaboration. In line with this, forum members will discuss emerging issue which have been raised by both the parent community and Academy staff.
What happens if I cannot attend one of the meetings?
If a member were unable to attend a forum meeting, we would kindly request that they inform Gary Webb, Player Care Manager for the Academy, as soon as possible.
What can I expect in return for my participation?
Parent Forum members will be responsible for communicating the needs and interests of the wider parent community and, as such, have the privileged position of participating in discussions and giving input into decisions made by the Academy.
I am a parent who is not a member of the Parent Forum, how can I be sure my views are being heard at meetings?
Parents and carers who are not members of the Parent Forum can submit agenda items for consideration via email to [email protected], or by speaking to a forum member.
After each forum meeting, a set of meeting minutes will be produced and distributed to the parent community via email and in the Academy Parents room.
