Your child’s relationship with their coach or coaches are one of the most important relationships that they have in their young lives. Many adults often recall moments with their sports coaches and when asked who inspired them most, many will name and recite coaches from their childhood and what behaviours made them so special.
Many of the responses when adults talk about these coaches include enthusiastic, passionate, organised, efficient, a motivator, inspiring, great technical knowledge, set good challenges, open, communicated well, empathy, great leader……..the list goes on!
In order to fulfil a lot of these key characteristics of what makes a good coach your child should undoubtedly feel safe with them, know the coach has some element of control but also know that they can go and talk to them whatever the issue may be.
The infographic above demonstrates this and the coach who can fit in the top right of the diagram is the coach who potentially could have the biggest impact on your child’s development.
