Over the last few seasons WWPIS have been working extensively across the Cricket Scotland Pathway Programme delivering a range of sessions to the U15-U18 parents using our ‘Sports Performance Parenting Programme.’
Sessions have also been delivered to staff and coaches around ‘Creating Positive Parent Cultures’ and the building of positive relationships with players’ parents to enhance the experience for all involved.
For the parents we have delivered a series of workshops that have taken the parents on the sporting journey alongside their children throughout their time in the pathway.
- Performance sports parenting; an introduction
- Parent parent OR sport parent; striking the balance
- Managing disappointment; avoiding devastation
- What’s your lens?
- “Fast cars; poor brakes”; parenting the teenage brain
- Beyond the badge: identity and sport
As the programme has developed we have refined and tweaked elements to meet the specific needs of those involved in the environment and the virtual sessions have proved incredibly popular. With so many parents scattered around the country, there are logistical challenges to having everyone in the same place at the same time so the virtual world has provided a positive solution.
Every parent within the programme has also been given access to a customised Cricket Scotland and WWPIS portal providing ongoing support across a whole host of topic areas.
This building of positive relationships has certainly helped in generating momentum behind the programme whilst also creating safety for everyone to feel part of the support being made available to them.
CEO Gordon MacLelland said, ‘The programme continues to go from strength to strength and we are already looking forward to the sessions this coming season.’
Gordon Drummond (Head of Performance Pathway, Cricket Scotland) said,’The partnership with Gordon and WWPIS has been hugely valuable to the support offered in the Cricket Scotland Pathway. Feedback from the parents and coaches who have attended the workshops has been excellent. The content has allowed both groups to reflect on their current levels of support and behaviours, looking at ways in which we can all work together to help our young athletes enjoy their experience more.
We look forward to continuing to work together with WWPIS to provide quality support for all players, staff and families involved in the Cricket Scotland pathway programme.’
