Over the last few seasons WWPIS have been working extensively across the Bath Rugby Academy delivering a range of sessions to the U16-U18 parents using our ‘Sports Performance Parenting Programme.’
This programme has been designed for those in performance sporting environments to provide a more strategic annual approach to parental support.
In collaboration with Sarah Murray (Performance Edge) we have delivered a series of workshops that have taken the parents on the sporting journey alongside their children.
- Performance sports parenting; an introduction
- Parent parent OR sport parent; striking the balance
- Managing disappointment; avoiding devastation
- What’s your lens?
- “Fast cars; poor brakes”; parenting the teenage brain
- Beyond the badge: identity and sport
As the programme has developed we have refined and tweaked elements to meet the specific needs of those involved in the environment and the mixture of live and virtual sessions has proved incredibly popular.
Every August we visit to deliver in person to the new cohort of parents and catch up with the U18 parents as they embark on a big year with their children both in and out of sport.
This building of relationships has certainly helped in generating momentum behind the programme whilst also creating safety for everyone to feel part of the support being made available to them. The feedback has also shown parents feeling that they are an intimate part of something as opposed to sitting in mass educational sessions with limited interaction.
CEO Gordon MacLelland said, ‘The programme continues to go from strength to strength and we are already looking forward to putting plans in place for next season to maximise the time that we have together.’
