We recently hit the road and had two excellent days supporting the parents of the U15 and U16 Bath Rugby Academy players and delivering to coaches of Basketball England at the 2020 Aspire conference held at Loughborough University.
We delivered two 90 minute sessions to groups of parents with the sessions providing lots of interactions and space for parents to discuss some of the challenges that they currently face and lie ahead for them, as well as taking a moment to reflect and be proud of what they and their children have achieved together so far on their sporting journey.
They were an excellent group and threw themselves with real energy into all elements of the interactive workshop. It was great to learn from them and be part of their journey in helping support their children in the most positive way. Some of the feedback that has been received has been really encouraging.
Bath Rugby are doing an excellent job with their parental engagement programme and it was great to hear about all of the different events that they put on throughout the course of the year to ensure that their parents feel supported and valued as a key member of the team.
We then headed to Loughborough University to speak with the Basketball England coaches looking at Parental Engagement, the challenges faced by coaches and parents, ideas for creatively improving relationships between all parties as well as discuss some of the pilot programme that we have started in the North West hub with the Aspire programme.
There was a real buzz in the room amongst the coaches and their enthusiasm and interactions certainly helped in making it a memorable afternoon.
It was also a privilege to listen to such a wide range of expert speakers covering a multitude of different topics. We certainly hope all of the coaches got out of it as much as we did.
