WWPIS recently had a fantastic day visiting the University of Winchester to talk to their sports coaching students about building positive relationships with sporting parents.
We were invited to speak by Richard Cheetham MBE and it was a privilege to deliver such a talk. It was made even more special by the fact that during the week Richard was nominated as a finalist for the UK Coaching ‘Coach Developer of the Year Award.’ Congratulations to Richard from the team here at WWPIS.
Most of our work is with existing coaches and it was exciting to speak to a group of coaches before many go out into the coaching workforce, hopefully arming them with some practical tips and strategies that they can start to think about and use immediately.
Speaking afterwards Richard said, “Too often we hear of the challenges faced by coaches which include voices and influences from the sidelines with over enthusiastic parents. Gordon delivered an excellent session at the University that engaged the students with active learning and critical information on how to deal with parents in a number of different scenarios. I would highly recommend this workshop as Gordon really captures the subject and guides coaches through the topic. The opportunity to support coaches with a workshop of this nature is essential in their development, by giving them additional skills to cope with the environments they will face in the real world.”
